Amit bag eight, Purab hit double hundred in first division
19th January 2018
An eight wicket haul by B. Amit helped East Bengal bundle Aikya Sammilani at 188 in 62.3 overs in a CAB first division league match today here in Maidan. EB finished day at 26 for 1.
In the post match session, Amit said CAB media, “There was damp in the wicket early in the morning making it difficult for the bowlers. The ball was getting slow giving enough time for the batsmen to play. But as the day progressed under the sun, the pitch got harder, helping us with some sort of bounce. I stuck to the basics and bowled in the right areas.”
“We have to try and get a good first innings lead, at least of two hundred, before bowling them out in the second essay,” he added.
In another match, Barisha Sporting rode an excellent double hundred by Purab Joshi reaching 419 for 1 in 86 overs against Kolkata Union Sporting Club. Unbeaten at 225, he was accompanied by Amit Chakraborty’s 103 off 156 balls.
“The wicket had moisture early in the morning but as the day proceeded it gradually eased out. The ball was coming to the bat well and I was waiting patiently for the loose deliveries putting them away. We will try to accelerate tomorrow morning reaching a score of about six hundred before letting them bat,” said Purab to CAB media.
“My aim will be to look for a triple hundred but still I would like to score at a quick rate because that is more important from the team’s perspective. Though it looks a good batting track but once we can put up a huge total the opposition might feel the pressure, helping us to get them out twice in the innings. There is enough time left in the match still,” he added.
Romit Sengupta’s unbeaten 170 took Young Bengal Sporting to 370 for 3 in 87 overs against B.N.R. Recreation Club while, the batting duo of Suvam Dey (114) and Ranjeet Agarwal (137) helped Shambazar reach 340 for 2 in 76 overs.
