Shami stars as Bengal inch closer to big win in Ranji
Trophy

24th January 2026
Riding on a brilliant bowling performance led by veteran Md Shami, Bengal inched closer to a comfortable victory against Services in their Ranji Trophy Elite match at the Bengal Cricket Academy, Kalyani on Saturday.
After posting a massive 519 in their first innings, Bengal bowled out Services for 186 to bag a big lead.
Following on, Services, in their second innings, were 231/8 at stumps on the third and penultimate day still trailing by 102 runs.
Bengal remained just two wickets away from a big win ahead of the fourth and final day.
Shami (5-51) ripped apart the Services batting line-up in their second innings while Mukesh Kumar (2-42) and Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal (1-27) also impressed.
In the first innings, Suraj bagged four, Akash Deep three, Shami two and one wicket for Shahbaz Ahmed.
"Shami, as always, is incredible with the ball. Our aim will be to get these two wickets early tomorrow and go into the final Group game on a high," head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla said.
