Batters flaunted their supremacy over visitors as Bengal finished Day 4 at 108 for 3 in Group D Ranji encounter against Goa at Eden Gardens,leading by 177 runs before bad light stopped the play.
Securing all important first innings lead to go beyoond Punjab's reach, Bengal played out safely, after losing Abhishek Raman cheaply,as Bengal suffered first blow on 16. Sudip Chatterjee and Abhimanyu Easwaran added 58 runs before the leftie succumbed to a controversial desicion on 35. The ball seemed to kiss the willow before hitting the pad. Skipper Manoj Tiwary got dismissed on 8 as first-innings-centurion Shreevats Goshwami(15 not out) and Easwaran(20not out) signed off the day without any casualities.Eswaran got a lifeline on 6 when Garg missed a caught and bowl opportunity.
Goa strayed all over the pitch except few intermittent good deliveries. Garg was successful twice,while Alemao got a wicket.
Earlier in the day,fielding flaws hurted Bengal as they dropped Desai on 53 and Parab twice at crucial times. However, Dinda broke 110runs sixth wicket partnership picking up Keenan(60). Kanishk Seth provided double blow in consecutive deliveries by scalping Pandrekar and Garg to down the leg balls,reducing Goa at 253/8. However, Garg could claim himself unlucky as the ball seemed to miss the edge, but the umpire had no hesitation to raise the finger.Desai and Parab staged a stiff resistance by adding 62 runs. Parab threw his bat to the balls,ultimately Dinda uprooted the stump to send him packing on 29. B.Amit wiped out the visitors as Goa finished their innings on 310. However, Desai fought alone battle scoring 103 runs off 264 balls.
Today,Ashoke Dinda bent his back with grit and determination for 18 overs as he achieved his 25th first-class five-wicket haul(5/79). Kanishk Seth scalped three wickets, while B.Amit picked up two wickets.
In a post match press interaction Ashoke Dinda said, "It is an amazing feeling whenever I get 5 wickets in Ranji. It is the 25th time I have been able to secure a 5 wicket haul in a Ranji match. I agree that few catches have been dropped during the match but Bengal is a good fielding side. Everyone in the team has bowled according to their strengths and youngsters have to be given the opportunity and time to develop their skills and prove their mettle. Overall I am happy with my achievement and the team as a whole."
