Easwaran, bowlers guide Bengal to victory over Assam

A brilliant century by skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran followed by a fine effort by the bowlers helped Bengal down Assam by 85 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite match in Rajkot on Saturday.
The victory tasted even sweeter on a day when veteran batsman Anustup Majumdar played his 100th List A match.
Put into bat, Bengal posted a challenging 302/7 in 50 overs. Easwaran, who scored his 10th List A ton, smashed 102 off 116 balls with 10 fours. Shahbaz Ahmed (66 not out off 57), Sudip Kumar Gharami (32), Anustup (31), Md Shami (25 not out off 11), Akash Deep (17 off 6) were the star batters.
In reply, Assam were bundled out for 217 in 42.1 overs. Shami (3-55 in 9 overs), Rohit (2-41 in 9.1 overs), Shahbaz (1-31 in 8 overs), Mukesh Kumar (1-47 in 7 overs) were superb with the ball for Bengal.
Bengal, with 16 points from five games, having won four, are placed in third spot in Elite Group B.
