Kohli plays captain's knock

As the sparse supporters at Eden Gardens erupted, the man of the moment punched into air -that’s how Virat Kohli celebrated his 18th Test ton after lofting Suranga Lakmal over extra cover for a six. Meanwhile, Indian skipper scored a half-century of International tons across all formats.
Coming into the test, Kohli did not have an innings to remember in his previous 7 innings at this hallowed venue. But the modern-age maestro took his game to next level at a time India losing wickets at regular interval. In the list of most ton as Indian skipper, Kohli equalled Sunil Gavaskar’s tally of 11, playing 17 tests less than little master.  
Kohli started off cautiously, a straight drive gave him the rhythm as the skipper anchored his innings with grit and patience. In the process, he went on to smash few glorious shots with sheer finesse. At lunch, he remained unbeaten on 41 off 71 balls. Post-lunch he took on the Lankans bowlers, smashing them all over the green drugget of Eden Gardens. After Wriddhiman Saha departed, skipper accelerated, hitting Shanaka a gorgeous boundary. Kohli a close-leg before scare to an identical delivery which got him out in the first innings. But luckily, Virat managed to get a feather touch. Skipper embraced the let-off with scorcher of a straight drive.
Indian no.4 motored to 86 by hitting Shanaka for two boundaries. Kohli does not generally hit in the air in Test matches, when he does, he deposits it into the stand. Lakmal would definitely remember it, as Virat effortlessly smashed a full delivery over extra cover for maximum, taking him to 92. In next Lakmal over, Kohli advanced down the pitch and lofted outside off delivery over extra cover, completing well-deserved ton. Kohli controlled his emotion for spilt second and busted into glee.  Kohli remained unbeaten on 104 off 119 balls with 12 boundaries and 2 sixes as India declared their innings at 352/8.
Virat Kohli scored his first 58runs in 93 balls while it took him only 26 balls to score next 48 runs. Kohli mostly punished his first innings hunter Lakmal as he went into a run-spree against the fast bowler.
