Captains Abhishek, Easwaran slam tons as Punjab have
last laugh in Syed Mushtaq Ali match

30th November 2025
In an incredible power-hitting show by both captains, Punjab skipper Abhishek Sharma and his Bengal counterpart Abhimanyu Easwaran slammed centuries each but it was Punjab who emerged winners by 112 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Elite match in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Batting first, Abhishek scored a brilliant 148 off 52 balls as Punjab posted a massive 310/5 in 20 overs. Abhishek hit 16 sixes and 8 fours. Prabhsimran Singh (70 off 35) gave his captain fine support.
For Bengal, Akash Deep was the pick of the bowlers bagging 2 for 55 in 4 overs. Md Shami, Saksham Chaudhary and Pradipta Pramanik claimed one each.
In the chase, despite losing early wickets skipper Easwaran kept Bengal in the game with his fighting yet power-hitting innings. Playing a captain's knock, Easwaran smashed unbeaten 130 off just 66 balls with 13 boundaries and 8 sixes.
Easwaran's knock was not enough at the end as Bengal scored 198/9 in 20 overs. Akash Deep (31 off 7 balls, 5 sixes) also played a quickfire knock.
For Punjab, Harpreet Brar bagged four wickets.
Enroute his knock, Easwaran entered the record books becoming the highest individual scorer from Bengal in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Earlier in 2019 against Arunachal, Wriddhiman Saha scored 129.
Easwaran also became the first batter from Bengal to score two hundreds in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Wriddhiman, Vivek Singh and Shahbaz Ahmed scored a hundred each for Bengal in the tournament.
