Riding on brilliant batting performances by Shakir Habib Gandhi (102 not out) and Abhishek Raman (93), Bhawanipore Club posted 257/3 in their first innings at stumps on Day 1 against East Bengal Club in the First Division Championship final at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.
Put into bat, Bhawanipore lost Jayojit Basu (0) and skipper Aamir Gani (3) early with just 27 on the board.
From there on, Raman and Gandhi added a much-needed 118-run partnership for the third wicket to take team to a respectable position.
However, Raman was unlucky to miss out on a well-deserved century.
After his dismissal, Gandhi and Arindam Ghosh (51 not out) played superbly to end the day on a high with an unbeaten 112-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
For East Bengal, Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal, Kanisk Seth and Vikas Singh bagged a wicket each.
