Ishan a bright start on a flat day 2 for Bengal
10th November 2017
Ishan Porel was the only bright spot on a dull day for Bengal as they were reduced to 89 for 3 after Vidharbha burried them under a massive 499 in the first innings of the Group D Ranji Trophy tie at Kalyani today.
Ishan Porel made the most of his inclusion bowling with imagination and guts as he picked up 4 wickets for 139 runs and 10 maidens in 47 overs. After stumps on Day 2, Ramaswamy said, "Porel bowled good lines for the Bengal squad and had good pace and bounce. He showed good aggression and even in the 70th over his deliveries displayed an overlay of swing."
The evidence that the pitch was a bit unexplored was uncovered as the Bengal team came down to bat late this afternoon. Abhimanyu Easwaran seemed to be under a lot of pressure as he failed to make the most of the pitch getting dismissed for a duck. The untimely dismissals of Sudip Chatterjee and Abhishek Kumar Raman for 15 and 27 respectively was quite uncalled for and added to the team's miserable standing.
The morning session proved crucial for the away team as they lost four early wickets. However, they disallowed everything in their way to a weighty first innings total cutting deep into the Bengal bowling line up with Sanjay Ramaswamy spearheading the batting strike and scoring a massive 182. Akshay Sarvate rose through the ranks to score a brilliant 89 after being called off a retired hurt following a rising bouncer delivered by Ishan Porel thay hit him hard on the helmet.
At stumps were batsmen Manoj Tiwary and Koushik Biplab Ghosh at 36 and 1 respectively.
