After a steady performance in the Group D matches, Bengal want to raise the bar against a balanced Vidarbha side in their Ranji Trophy fixture at Kalyani from tomorrow.
Bengal have a point deficit to second placed Vidarbha with 13 points in the perfectly poised Group D. Bengal started off the campaign well as both batters and bowlers are having a good patch. While, Sudip Chatterjee smashed two tons; Koushik Ghosh, Manoj Tiwary, Abhishek Raman also reached the three figure mark. The bowling department also contributed well. However, Mohammed Shami will miss the match being rested for forthcoming Indian team's commitments. The Bengal team will bank both on pace and spin to pick up twenty wickets on a sporting pitch, which will generate turn as the match progresses.
Skipper Manoj Tiwary said, "We are concentrating on our strength. Vidarbha is a good side. But we are playing well and will get on to the field with a positive frame of mind. The wicket looks likely to have some life in the morning. There will be movement. We have to keep that in mind,"
He further added, "We always play for full points. This is not going to be different. Cricket is a funny game. Even if we dont get full points here we might get it in next two games. I think we are in a good position,"
However, Vidarbha old-horse, Wasim Jaffer said, "Bengal are a good side and playing some good cricket. But we are also winning. The boys are among runs. We have the right blend in the side. We look forward to some good competitive cricket."
The visitor's coach, Chandrakant Pandit, echoed , "The fact that Md Shami is not playing is good for us. But then again we also dont have Umesh Yadav. We have come with a positive frame of mind though we are aware Bengal is a very good side and we treat them with respect."
Skipper F. Faizal scored two tons in last two matches, while middle and lower order contributed well, especially A.Karnewar who picked 16 wickets and also contributed with the bat.
