in Ranji match vs Haryana

23rd January 2025
Riding on a brilliant bowling effort by Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal (6-46), Bengal bundled out Haryana for 157 in their first innings on Day 1 in the Ranji Trophy match at Bengal Cricket Academy, Kalyani on Thursday.
Suraj was well supported in the other end by Md Kaif (2-23) and Mukesh Kumar (2-52).
At stumps on the opening day, Bengal were 10/1 in their first innings with debutant Ankit Chatterjee (5 not out) and night-watchman Rohit Kumar (0 not out) remaining unbeaten.
The day was even more memorable for Ankit as he became the second youngest player to make First-Class debut for Bengal at the age of 15 years and 361 days. The youngest player from Bengal to make FC debut (1960-61) was Ambar Roy (15 years, 194 days).
The Bangaon-boy Ankit, who is currently studying in 10th standard, received his cap from India and Bengal veteran wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha.
Earlier, put into bat, Haryana, who were 81 for no loss, thereafter lost wickets at regular intervals and were bundled out for a low score to hand the opening day honors to the home side.
