29th October 2024
Bengal pacer Ishan Porel marked a remarkable return to first-class cricket by bagging an impressive 5 for 83 against Kerala in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group C clash at the JU 2nd Campus Ground on Monday.
At stumps on Day 3, Kerala recovered to score 267/7 in their first innings.
Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal and Pradipta Pramanik bagged the other two wickets for Bengal.
"We will aim to strike back tomorrow morning. Our bowlers tried their best today. We will remain positive in our approach," Bengal head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla said.
Resuming the day from overnight score of 51/4, Kerala added 27 runs before Ishan got the first breakthrough in the morning dismissing skipper Sachin Baby (12).
The lanky pacer struck again removing the other overnight batter Akshay Chandran (31) to put the visitors in a spot of bother at 83/6.
Against the run of play, Jalaj Saxena (84), partnering with Salman Nizar (64 not out) added 140 runs for the seventh wicket to take the visitors out of trouble.
As Jalaj inched closer to his ton, Suraj got rid off the set batter to bring a sigh of relief in Bengal camp.
Salman and Mohammed Azharuddeen (30 not out) remained unbeaten at the end of the day's play.
