Sudip Chatterjee marked a remarkable return to Bengal cricket by smashing a brilliant century on Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group C match against Uttar Pradesh at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday.
At stumps, Bengal were 269/7 in 82 overs.
The experienced batter slammed 116 off 227 balls with nine boundaries and one six.
The left-handed batsman was well supported in the other end by Sudip Kumar Gharami, who scored a fine 90 off 161 balls with 11 boundaries and 1 six.
The duo stitched together a much-needed 198 runs for the second wicket after Bengal were 14/1 inside 5 overs.
While both Sudip and Gharami were in total control, Abhimanyu Easwaran (5), Anustup Majumdar (1), Abishek Porel (2), Wriddhiman Saha (0) and Writtick Chatterjee (12) had an off day in office.
Shahbaz Ahmed (26 not out) and Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal (0 not out) remained unbeaten at the end of the day.
For UP, Vipraj Nigam was the pick for their bowlers bagging 4 for 59.
