Rashmi Medinipur Wizards book semis berth, Harbour Diamonds
lose seven on the trot in Bengal Pro T20 League
23rd June 2024
Rashmi Medinipur Wizards became the second team to book a place in the semifinals of the inaugural Bengal Pro T20 league after a dominant eight-wicket victory over Harbour Diamonds at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.
On the other hand, it has been a terrible season for the Manoj Tiwary-led Harbour Diamonds, who suffered their seventh straight defeat of the competition.
With their fourth victory in seven games, Rashmi Medinipur Wizards have climbed to second spot in the points table with 9 points while Harbour Diamonds, after losing all seven league games, will bow out of the league as the eighth-placed team.
The star performer for the match was Priyanshu Shrivastava, who smashed a brilliant 88 not out off 57 balls along with skipper Sudip Chatterjee (58 not out off 37) to take Rashmi Medinipur Wizards over the line in style. In the bowling department, Deepak Kumar, Anubhav Tyagi, Shreyan Chakraborty, Kaushik Maity and Vivek Singh bagged a wicket each.
Enroute his match-winning knock, Priyanshu hit 11 boundaries and three sixes while Sudip struck five fours and two sixes.
Earlier, batting first, Harbour Diamonds posted a challenging 169/6 in 20 overs, thanks to Subham Sarkar (51 off 28). Skipper Manoj failed to impress, scoring 15 off 15.
In reply, chasing the target, Medinipur Wizards suffered an early setback, losing Wriddhiman Saha (1) in the second over of their innings.
However, Vivek (23 off 9) played a quick-fire knock followed by a brilliant unbeaten 141-run partnership between Priyanshu and Sudip which helped Medinipur Wizards chase the target down, scoring 172/2 in 17.5 overs.
