Asif slams unbeaten 99 as Adamas Howrah Warriors script big win in Bengal Pro T20 League
17th June 2024
Sk Asif Hossain put on a brilliant batting display, smashing an unbeaten 99 off just 57 balls as Adamas Howrah Warriors outclassed Harbour Diamonds by 31 runs in the Bengal Pro T20 League at the Eden Gardens on Monday.
Asif, who struck eight boundaries and five sixes, fell short by just one run on a well-deserved century. His match-winning innings was also the highest individual score in the ongoing tournament.
Put into bat, Adamas Howrah Warriors lost opener Ankush Sur (2) in the third over. However, Asif partnering with skipper Anustup Majumder (44 off 36) played positively to add 98 runs for the second wicket.
Despite the dismissal of Anustup, Asif didn’t hold back, as a series of boundaries followed by sixes powered Warriors to 179/4 in 20 overs, the highest team total in the ongoing tournament.
For Harbour Diamonds, Subham Sarkar was the pick of the bowlers bagging 1 for 26.
In reply, chasing a challenging target, Harbour Diamonds were in a spot of bother after losing openers Sayan Sekhar Mondal (3) followed by skipper Manoj Tiwary (2) with just 6 runs on the board.
Against the run of play, young and talented batter Chandrahas Dash played a fighting knock of 34 off 28 balls with three boundaries and two sixes to give Diamonds some hope of a fightback.
After his dismissal, Badal Singh Balyan (37 off 15) and Suvankar Bal (35) with some late power-hitting showed intent but Harbour Diamonds fell short, managing only 148/8 in 20 overs.
For the Warriors, Aamir Gani and Shaksham Sharma bagged two wickets each.
With this defeat, Harbour Diamonds suffered their fourth successive loss in the tournament.
