A dream Test debut for Bengal pacer Akash Deep
23rd February 2024
Bengal pacer Akash Deep announced his arrival in Test cricket with a ruthless spell of fast bowling on debut by bagging 3 for 70 against England on the opening day in the fourth Test in Ranchi on Friday.
Accompanying Mohammad Siraj with the new ball in absence of Jasprit Bumrah, the fast bowler from Bengal grabbed the opportunity with both hands to bowl a memorable opening spell.
After troubling the England openers with his sheer pace, the 27-year-old ran through the top-order within the first hour of the day's play, dismissing Ben Duckett (11) followed by Ollie Pope (0) and Zak Crawley (42) to put the visitors in trouble at 57/3 inside 12 overs.
Akash Deep, who has been handed over the Test cap by India head coach Rahul Dravid, is 313th player to play Test cricket for India.
