28th May 2017
A six-wicket haul by Boddupalli Amit axed Town as East Bengal won the CAB First Division League this season after beating opposition by 154 runs in the final match today here at the Eden Gardens Kolkata. Chasing East Bengal’s 366, Town were bundled at 212 runs.
Resuming the day at an overnight score of 150 for 5, remaining 216 runs behind, clueless Town batsmen could add only 62 runs more to the total before polishing off at 212 within 64 overs.
After finishing with figures 3 for 31 last day, Amit bagged three more wickets today giving away 13 more runs ending with figures 6 for 44, securing East Bengal’s victory. He was declared the man of the match.
“Feeling very good being a part of the winning side. It is my first major trophy. The wicket was supporting fast bowlers and had a good bounce. We were confident about defending the total. Anything above 350 I feel is a winning score here, given the depth in bowling we have. They also gave a good fight but we have played better cricket,” said Amit.
“It was hot and humid but we had a zeal of winning the match. It was an overall a team performance that we won the match today. We have been playing well throughout the season so were confident of a positive result,” he added.
“It has been a great season for us. The boys have done very well and I am proud of them. Playing under such hot and humid conditions was not easy and the way they dominated the match was excellent to see. I wish them a good luck. Hope they play cricket better in future,” said East Bengal President, Pranab Dasgupta.
