Odisha reach 96/2 against Bengal on Day 1

24th January 2023
Odisha managed to post 96/2 in 35 overs against Bengal at stumps on Day 1 in the Elite Group A clash at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday.
Akash Deep and Ishan Porel bagged a wicket each for Bengal.
Put into bat, Odisha began the proceedings on a cautious note as openers Shantanu Mishra (41 not out) and Anurag Sarangi (15) weren't troubled much by the Bengal bowlers.
The home side were in search of much-needed breakthrough and were finally rewarded in the 15th over when Akash Deep dismissed Sarangi to reduce Odisha to 26/1.
From there on, Shantanu and Sandeep Pattanaik (30) combined well to add crucial 57 runs for the second wicket.
Much to the delight of the home side, Sandeep played a loose shot off the bowling of Ishan in the 32nd over to reduce Odisha to 83/2.
But Shantanu and skipper Subhransu Senapati (9) stood firm to remain unbeaten at the end of the day's play.
The match commenced at 1pm in place of the scheduled start at 8.45 am due to damp conditions. A total of 35 overs were played today.
"We as a team are focused only on what's happening in the match. We focus on our abilities and how we can perform well. Our bowlers tried their best on the day. We will continue to do so and look to grab wickets early tomorrow," head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla said after the day's play.
