Bengal juggernaut rolls on
3rd February 2017
Bengal defeated Odhisa by 24 runs to maintain their all win record in the T20 Zonal League at the Eden Gardens here today. Batting first a late surge from Writtick Chatterjee and Kanishk Seth helped Bengal reach 145 for 7 on a pitch that aided the bowlers.
Bengal began in a disastrous manner being reduced to 67 for 5 with Wriddhiman Saha (10), Abhishek Raman (5) and Manoj Tiwary (1).
Sreevats Goswami was the lone warrior scoring 33 of 31 balls with four boundaries. However, it was a late flourish from Writtick Chatterjee (33 off 22 balls with two fours and two six) and Kanishk Seth (22 off 11 balls) made sure Bengal posted a fighting total.
Pramod Chandila, with a run-a-ball 32, lent solidity to the middle order.
Paresh Patel( 2 for 18) and Deepak Behera (2 for 16) were the top bowlers for Odhisa.
Odhisa won the toss and elected to field and it looked like a good decision till Ashoke Dinda struck in the first over. At one point Odhisa was tottering at 39 for 5 wickets, before Subhransu Senapati showed some pluck. He scored a workmanlike 41 off 45 balls to give Odhisa’s run chase some momentum, but once he was gone the Odhisa innings fell apart.
Abhishek Yadav (23 off18 balls), Suryakant Pradhan (14 off 5 balls) and Basant Mohanty (19 off 17) made brief flourishes but Bengal kept chipping away at the wickets to fold the match with 8 balls to spare.
Sayan Ghosh was again the tormentor in chief with 3 wickets for 25 with Pragyan ojha taking 2 for 29 to leave Odhisa at bay. They were ably supported by Ashoke Dinda, Kanishk Seth and Writtick Chatterjee who took a wicket each.
